There is a saying “Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results”. That is how I feel as I write this last column as the chairman of this great association. This association does not succeed because of what the chairman does or what the board does. It succeeds because each of you gets involved. It takes a total TEAM effort! It truly has been my privilege and honor to serve as your chairman this past year. We really do have a great association.
This past year we held our second annual Emerging Leaders program and our second annual Certified Community Bank Security Professionals Institute with Secure Banking Solutions. These are both great programs that will benefit our organization in the future. We had another great Director’s conference last fall and this spring we hosted the FDIC Bankers College in Sioux Falls. We continue to strive to bring our members current valuable continuing education.
ICBSD continues to be your voice in Pierre and Washington. We have held numerous meetings with our congressional delegation. With Greg’s leadership and drive we are now at the table when discussions are held on matters affecting the banking industry, whether it is in Pierre or Washington. Greg has done an excellent job in getting us in front of the people we need to be in front of.
In a few weeks (July 23rd - 25th) we will gather at Sylvan Lake Lodge for our annual retreat. This is a one of a kind event! It is a wonderful time to renew old acquaintances and meet new people. If you have never attended this event you really need to consider it. I promise you will not be disappointed! Each year we hear how this is such a great family event and allows people to reconnect with fellow bankers and vendors. And you won’t find a better setting! So if you haven’t already signed up you better hurry as things are filling up!
Of course none of this would be possible without a great coach. Greg has done another outstanding job this year! I just try to stay out of his way! He has such a passion for our industry and continues to look for ways to strengthen our association. He is continually looking for ways to get us in front of the right people. He has made great strides in Pierre and Washington. He truly has their ear. With his drive and energy our association will be in good hands in the years to come. I also want to thank the board for all their time and dedication to this association. The passion each of you has for our industry is never ending! To each of the members of this association I want to say a big “Thank You” for all you do. Whether it is writing letters or contacting our congressional delegation or coming to our events, you are always there! As I quoted before, (it was the title of one of Cam Fine’s articles) “Doing the Right Thing is in the Community Bank DNA”.
Thank you again for all you do and for allowing me to serve as your Chairman. It has been a great experience. I have made so many friendships along the way and met so many wonderful people. I have enjoyed every minute of it. We truly are “Making a Difference”! See you at Sylvan.
